Shiny and Phat

Nobody walks in L.A.

So the song goes. I'll rant about that later.

However, it's true that this isn't a very walk-friendly city, especially out in the Valley. So I got me a bike. It's a single-speed Phat cruiser, bare bones functional. Purty, eh?

I am now a big fan of bike lanes.

And I'm glad to see the helmet. A bike helmet saved my... well, I don't know, it *might* have saved me a head injury, but probably not my life. But it could save yours!

Just leave your hair down when you wear it... some study just brought to my attention shows that drivers give cyclists with long hair (those that they take to be female, in other words) a wider berth, which is useful when you're not around any nice big bike lanes.

Yeah, I got the helmet but I forgot to get a lock. I have to get one tomorrow or I'll not have my shiny, new bike for long.

I saw the same thing about drivers giving extra room to female cyclists. I'm going to pretend that it isn't a sexist "women can't drive/ride" thing but an act of chivalry. ;-)

Nah.. one of these would be cool:

Beats a '52 Vincent and a Redheaded girl."

However, you've got to admire the bravery of anyone who's prepared to cycle in LA.
